$4,000 Student Scholarship - EMC Insurance Companies

Elizabeth Phipps, Brillion Public Schools

Elizabeth Phipps, of the Brillion Public Schools, is the recipient of the $4,000 Student Scholarship, sponsored by EMC Insurance Companies and the WASBO Foundation.

Phipps will attend St. Norbert College to study Accounting to work towards her CPA license. In high school, Phipps participated in Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Forensics, and Cross Country. Outside of school, she has held Accounting/Credit Internships at Endries International and Ariens Company. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

This scholarship carries with it a $4,000 award to provide financial assistance to a graduating high school senior attending an accredited college or university (public or private). The scholarship is sponsored by the WASBO Foundation and EMC Insurance Companies. Phipps was awarded her scholarship certificate in conjunction with her district’s award recognition.

$3,000 Student Scholarship - BMO Harris Bank

Madelyn Hepp, Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools

Madelyn Hepp, of the Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools, is the recipient of the $3,000 Student Scholarship, sponsored by the WASBO Foundation and BMO Harris Bank.

Hepp plans to attend the University of Wisconsin — Madison this fall to study Political Science on the Pre-Law Track with the goal of pursuing a career in law.

During high school, Hepp participated in many academic and athletic organizations such as Mock Trial, Volleyball, Soccer, Student Council, DECA, National Honor Society, and more. This past school year, she served as the Student Council President and School Board Representative.

“Pursuing many courses and organizations in high school centered around the law and government has broadened my understanding of the topic and increased my passion for this subject,” Hepp said. “I am choosing to pursue the law because of a deep desire to help those in need and actively participate in our government.”

$1,500 WASBO President's Scholarship - United Healthcare

Manon Field, Hudson School District

Manon Field, of the Hudson School District, is the recipient of the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials President’s Scholarship, sponsored by the WASBO Foundation and UnitedHealthcare. This scholarship is awarded in honor of the 2021-22 WASBO President Tim Erickson, Chief Financial & Operations Officer, School District of Hudson.

Field plans to attend the University of Minnesota — Twin Cities in the fall to study biochemistry. Field also looks forward to being involved in a variety of campus activities including rowing on the women's crew team, and volunteering on the university's EMS team as an EMT.

“I have long term interests in public health and medicine, I and hope to pursue a career as a physician in a cross-cultural setting,” Field said. “I have had the opportunity to captain both track and cross country, and have enjoyed growing as a runner, teammate, and leader in these positions.”

$1,500 WASBO President's Scholarship - United Healthcare

Hank Wettleson, Hudson School District

Hank Wettleson, of the Hudson School District, is the recipient of the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials President’s Scholarship, sponsored by the WASBO Foundation and UnitedHealthcare. This scholarship is awarded in honor of the 2021-22 WASBO President Tim Erickson, Chief Financial & Operations Officer, School District of Hudson.

Wettleson plans to attend the University of Wisconsin — La Crosse and major in Computer Science. Some of his proudest accomplishments during his high school career include being on the honor roll his junior and senior year, honorable mention all-state for football, earning four varsity letters, and starting on the varsity wrestling team during his freshman year.

This scholarship carries with it a $1,500 award to provide financial assistance to a graduating high school senior attending an accredited college or university (public or private). $1,500 WASBO School Business Manager of the Year Award Scholarship - WASBO Foundation

Alexis McBain, Ithaca School District

Alexis McBain, of the Ithaca School District, is the recipient of the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials School Business Manager of the Year Award Scholarship, sponsored by the WASBO Foundation. This scholarship is awarded in honor of the 2022 School Business Manager of the Year Award recipient Cheryl Richards, Business Manager, Ithaca School District.

McBain plans to attend Southwest Technical College in the Human Services Pathway. Her passion is to help others (especially pediatric) with mental health issues. She would like to be a counselor and help children overcome fear, anxiety, and any other crisis.

$2,000 Bambi Statz Scholarship - Performance Services

Natalya Lythjohan, Sun Prairie Area School District

Tina Hansen, Bookkeeper for the North Cape School District, is the recipient of the $2,000 Dr. Bambi Statz Academic Scholarship, sponsored by Performance Services.

This scholarship is presented to an individual who is currently working toward a degree and certification in school business management in Wisconsin. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited university graduate program in Wisconsin leading toward initial 08 Certification. Hansen is currently pursuing her School Business Manager licensure credits through University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

“As an immigrant who has taken the American opportunity to graduate high school and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, I love the journey that has brought me to the School Business Manager program and look forward to using the knowledge to serve Wisconsin school districts,” Hansen said.

The $2,000 scholarship is in recognition of Dr. Bambi Statz’s contributions to the school business management profession and is fully funded by Performance Services. Hansen was recognized during the 2022 Spring Conference at the Kalahari on May 20, 2022.

$4,000 Joel Konze Memorial/Facilities Management Conference Scholarship - First Onsite Property Restoration/Stalker Sports Floors

Nathan Wagner, Madison Metropolitan School District

Nathan Wagner, of the Madison Metropolitan School District, is the recipient of the $4,000 Joel Konze Memorial/Facilities Management Conference Student Scholarship, sponsored by First Onsite Property Restoration and Stalker Sports Floors.

Wagner plans to attend the University of Wisconsin — Madison this fall with the goal of eventually becoming a PhD-level physics researcher at a U.S. physics accelerator laboratory. He also hopes to remain involved in STEAM outreach. After developing an early interest in mathematics and astronomy, Wagner took accelerated courses in both math and physics throughout high school, including several classes at UW — Madison. He joined West's Rocketry Club in his freshman year, winning the American Rocketry Competition alongside his team and then representing the United States in the International Rocketry Competition in Paris. Wagner also plays the piano and violin and has sung in the Madison Youth Choir since age 11. He is currently employed part-time at UW-Madison's Wisconsin Quantum Institute and intends on continuing quantum physics research into college.

$3,000 Student Scholarship - Nexus Solutions

Benjamin Lukszys, New Glarus School District

Benjamin Lukszys, of the New Glarus School District, is the recipient of the $3,000 Student Scholarship, sponsored by Nexus Solutions and the WASBO Foundation.

He plans to attend the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin — Madison this fall. His academic interests include finance, entrepreneurship, and music.

In high school, he was the jazz pianist in WSMA State Honors Jazz Ensemble last year, organized several volunteer events as President of the National Honor Society, and served as President of the local DECA chapter. Additionally, he was on his school’s golf and soccer teams throughout high school and was named first team all-conference and academic all-state honorable mention in soccer.

“I look forward to expanding my passion for business and innovation with an education that prioritizes the common good,” Lukszys said. “I hope to accomplish this by staying well-rounded in my studies and studying morals and ethics in business with classes in philosophy. I plan to round off my education by studying music on the side and playing piano in a jazz group.”

$1,000 Student Scholarship - National Insurance Services & Miron Construction 

Evan Luedtke, River Falls School District

Evan Luedtke, of the River Falls School District, is the recipient of the $1,000 Student Scholarship, sponsored by the WASBO Foundation, National Insurance Services, and Miron Construction Co, Inc.

Luedtke plans to attend Iowa State University this fall to pursue a degree in environmental engineering, which is a passion of his.

“Tinkering, solving problems, and watching project-based videos are some of my favorite pastimes,” Luedtke said. He describes himself as “an extremely passionate outdoorsman who spends most of his time outside playing soccer, going golfing, skiing, or fishing.”

He enjoys finding new hobbies outside in addition to watching the Packers, Badgers, and other favorite teams. In his community, Luedtke loves serving others through his church and as the student treasurer of a local nonprofit called the River Falls Sunshine Fund. Throughout high school, he also has been an active member of the National Honor Society and his senior leadership team. He also has participated on the men’s golf team and was a varsity team captain for the men’s soccer team.

Hailey Maynard, Pewaukee School District

Hailey Maynard, of the Pewaukee School District, is the recipient of the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials School Business Manager of the Year Award Scholarship, sponsored by the WASBO Foundation. This scholarship is awarded in honor of the 2022 School Business Manager of the Year Award recipient John Gahan, Assistant Superintendent / CFO, Pewaukee School District.

Maynard will be attending the University of Wisconsin — Madison in the fall with plans to double major in English and International Studies with a minor in Spanish. In the future, she hopes to become a novelist or travel journalist. Maynard is a Key Club Officer, a member of the National Honors Society, and a four-year member of the PHS Drama Club, participating in the spring musical each year. Outside of school, Maynard loves to read, write, and play the guitar.

$1,500 Wallace E. Zastrow Award Scholarship - Community Insurance Corporation

Natalya Lythjohan, Sun Prairie Area School District

Natalya Lythjohan, of the Sun Prairie Area School District, is the recipient of the $1,500 Wallace E. Zastrow Award Scholarship, sponsored by the WASBO Foundation and Community Insurance Corporation. The scholarship is in honor of Janet Rosseter, Assistant Superintendent for the Sun Prairie Area School District, who is the recipient of the 2022 Wallace E. Zastrow Award.

Lythjohan will be attending UW-Milwaukee to pursue a degree in criminal justice. When she was asked what motivated her to pursue a college education, she paused and said, “just do it.” She enjoys sociology and creative writing. Lythjohan is involved in track and enjoys hanging out with people and traveling. Besides her mom, Lythjohan’s aunt in Arizona has been a big influence in her life. Lythjohan's aunt didn’t have children of her own and treats Natalya as one of hers. Rosseter wanted to award this scholarship to a first-generation college student who had financial need (characteristics that mirrored her own path). Lythjohan said she is excited to start her new journey after high school.
