Change Happens: Leading Yourself and Others Through Change
Mack & Ria Story

As a leader of change, you are faced with the need to not only manage the change itself, but also the resistance, reactions, fears, and emotions of your team members throughout the change. Fear of change will create roadblocks when it comes to implementing new initiatives. The result: wasted time, increased cost, and decreased productivity. When we leverage something, we take advantage of the lever to multiply the results of our efforts. Leveraging something can be a powerful way to gain momentum and accelerate progress. But, we seldom think of change as something we can, or should, leverage.

Employee engagement starts with engaged leadership. Disengaged employees are a symptom of disengaged leaders at one or more levels in your organization. In fact, research studies show employees are 40% more productive if they want to follow their leader compared to those who feel they have to follow their leader. In other words, the level of engagement below is determined by the level of engagement above.

The Sun Prairie community had the unique opportunity to open a second comprehensive high school following a successful April 2019 referendum. The success is the direct result of the work of over a dozen stakeholder committees of multi-faceted processes and workstreams. In this session, we will highlight the work of one of those committees, the High School Subcommittee. This group incorporated work from the pre-referendum Secondary Educational Visioning team to work with architects to design modern flexible learning spaces in the beautiful and functional 2,000-student facility that opened as Sun Prairie West High School in September 2022.

The potentially viral nature of social media is an ever-present risk as provocative photos, videos, and information can swiftly be sent and received. For example, last year’s round of TikTok "devious licks" resulted in significant damage to schools across the nation. On the other hand, schools have effectively used social media to communicate vital information to parents, students, and community stakeholders. Social media components are now part of most school mass notification systems. This informative session will explore both risks and solutions encountered with social media.

Objective: Provide a simple and objective methodology to assess and “grade” a contractor’s qualification through the use of a simple matrix scorecard to determine best value Abstract: No matter what type of contractor you are planning to hire for your facility, you want to ensure that they have the skills and expertise needed to get the job done and provide quality workmanship while providing the best value for the cost. Whether it be a lawn service, electrician, janitorial, HVAC contractor or any of the other myriad of companies you hire to take care of your buildings, this simple method will help you make the most appropriate cost-effective decision. Some of the factors which will figure into your decision will include skills training, safety record, customer service, security (background checks), drug testing policy, response time, financial stability, mobile solutions, pricing, experience, bundled service, regulatory compliance, certifications, established relationships. Using this simple matrix, you will be able to simplify the contractor selection process and justify your choice based on the most important factors for the job. Business is all about relationships. Many of us have great relationships with multiple vendors who perform the same services and need an unbiased method for assessing the true value of a potential vendor. No matter what type of vendor you are planning to hire, you want to ensure that they have the required skills and expertise while providing the best value for the cost. This forum is intended to provide an objective methodology wherein you can create an "even playing field" for choosing the best contractor for your requirements or RFP by creating a points system that is understandable to competitors and avoids the emotional aspect of the decision. Using this simple and straightforward matrix, you will be able to simplify the contractor selection process beyond business relationships and justify your choice based on the most important factors for the job.
