Designing Schools through Collaborative Community Processes The Sun Prairie community had the unique opportunity to open a second comprehensive high school following a successful April 2019 referendum. The success is the direct result of the work of over a dozen stakeholder committees of multi-faceted processes and workstreams. This group incorporated work from the pre-referendum Secondary Educational Visioning team to work with architects to design modern flexible learning spaces in the beautiful and functional 2,000-student facility that opened as Sun Prairie West High School in September 2022. Asbestos & Integrated Pest Management in Schools (Mod. 3) This course will offer background information, health effects and regulatory information on asbestos in Schools. In addition, we will inform attendees the roles and responsibilities of the Asbestos Designated Person that every School District is required to appoint per the EPA-Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response (AHERA) rules. We will also cover the requirements of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) rule that applies to Wisconsin School Districts. Energy Codes and Beyond Balancing Energy Efficiency, Air Quality, Occupant Comfort, Operational Efficiency and Sustainability goals in new construction and renovation project. Specifying and installing an energy-efficient system is no longer the only consideration for new or renovation projects. Increasing demands of minimum mandatory state energy codes, COVID 19, Indoor Air Quality and occupant comfort are met with more sophisticated tools for tracking and reporting operational and embodied carbon – within budget limitations. This interactive workshop will provide a hands-on approach to selecting building systems, striking the right balance between these sometimes-opposing factors.
