2026 Spring Pre-Conference Sessions

Pre-conference sessions offer an in-depth opportunity to explore timely topics, build practical skills, and connect with peers before the main conference begins.

Kick off the WASBO Spring Conference with one of our engaging pre-conference workshops. These three-hour sessions provide an extended opportunity to dive deeper into timely topics, gain practical strategies, and connect with fellow school business professionals in a smaller, interactive setting.

We will offer multiple pre-conference workshops, each designed to deliver focused learning and valuable takeaways. Pre-registration is required, and the cost is $95 per workshop. Space may be limited, so we encourage early registration to secure your spot. Pre-Conference session offerings include:

Emergency Readiness

What do YOU do in the first
5 minutes of an emergency?

  • Description: Build reflexes—not just plans—through engaging improv exercises designed to strengthen emergency readiness. School staff are often first responders when situations unfold quickly, yet a “practice gap” exists between drills and real-world response. Heroic Improv (HI) bridges that gap using its 5-step cycle—Alert, Ready, Connect, Focus, Move—to help teams respond with clarity and confidence.  These brief, interactive exercises build practical skills such as communication, adaptability, and decision-making that transfer to real emergencies. Simple, memorable, and immediately applicable, this workshop provides focused and flexible emergency training that strengthens your ability to respond effectively when it matters most.
  • Speaker: Dr. Mary Tyszkiewicz, Heroic Improv: Emergency Readiness Training

DPI Financial Reporting

  • Description: Stay ahead of reporting requirements and strengthen your financial confidence with this three-hour pre-conference training on Wisconsin DPI Financial Reporting. Designed for school business officials and district finance professionals, this session will provide a practical overview of key DPI reporting components, timelines, and expectations. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how accurate financial reporting supports district transparency, compliance, and sound decision-making. Through guided instruction and real-world examples, attendees will explore common reporting challenges, best practices for maintaining clean and consistent data, and strategies to streamline the process year after year. Whether you are new to DPI reporting or looking for a helpful refresher, this extended session offers valuable tools and insights to help you start the conference on solid financial footing.
