Transportation Tidbits: WASBO Live Webinar

Join us for an interactive webinar covering the most relevant school transportation topics.

The Transportation Conference is moving its professional development offering to live virtual webinars fondly called “Transportation: Tidbits”. WASBO believes information related to student transportation is important and along with the Transportation Committee are moving this learning opportunity to a new format. Areas of transportation may not be your primary job role however it is an essential function of the school district. As a WASBO member benefit the webinars will be free to you. A variety of topics covering operations and management are being planned.

We hope you will join us on Wednesday, February 15 for our third webinar of the year!

Agenda:

McKinney Vento

In this session DPI will cover the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and the rights to transportation for students experiencing homelessness. We will discuss the requirements school districts have to support students experiencing homelessness. We will also share strategies for transporting students and best practices for school districts.

  • Kristine Nadolski, WI Dept. of Public Instruction
  • Clara Pfeiffer, WI Dept. of Public Instruction

Parent Pupil Transportation Contracts

State law allows school districts to provide transportation to resident pupils by contracting with the parent or guardian of the pupil to be transferred. Typically, parent contracts are used in cases where the school district would have to incur unusually high costs to transport a particular pupil or group of pupils by school bus. There are two different types of parent contracts authorized under the law: Public or Private School Pupils (s. 121.55(1)(b), Wisconsin Statutes) and Private School Pupils Only (s. 121.55(3), Wisconsin Statutes). Both types of contracts apply only in cases where the school board is required by law to transport the pupil to and from school.

  • Mark Elworthy, WI Dept. of Public Instruction
