2015 WASBO Foundation Spring Scholarship Golf & Bike Outings

2015 WASBO Foundation Spring Scholarship Golf & Bike Outings
Support student scholarships as you network with colleagues.

Hit the greens or jump on your bike to support over $21,000 in student scholarships awarded by WASBO annually to deserving Wisconsin high school seniors! Network on Wednesday, May 13 with school district professionals and company representatives who provide products and services to Wisconsin schools, then join us for two days of powerful professional development at the WASBO Foundation Spring Conference & Exhibits. WASBO offers two different fundraising activities. Golfers have the opportunity to play 18 holes at the scenic Pleasant View Golf Course which overlooks Madison, while bikers can ride the Military Ridge State Trail from Mount Horeb to Dodgeville.

WASBO Scholarship Golf Outing

The Scholarship Golf Outing will be held rain or shine, on Wednesday, May 13 at Pleasant View Golf Course, located at 1322 Pleasant View Road, Middleton, WI. Registration check-in is available from 8-9:30 am, and opportunities to hit on the practice range are available during this time as well. The event kicks off with a shot gun start at 9:30 am sharp, and sixsomes will play a best ball scramble. WASBO Service Affiliate Members sponsor hole events to make this a fun networking opportunity for everyone while we benefit kids by raising money for student scholarships. When registering for golf, please indicate any potential partners you would like to be paired with (teams will consist of both school district professionals and service affiliate vendors). Every effort will be made to honor your preferences.

Registration is $80 and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, beverages, networking, as well as a late afternoon reception (4:30-6:30 pm) at the Madison Marriott West with beverages, hot hors d'oeuvres, and the awarding of golf prizes.

WASBO Scholarship Bike Outing

As an alternative to the golf outing on Wednesday, WASBO offers its fifth spring bike tour, sponsored by WEA Trust. ***Please note new bike tour information as of May 5, 2015. New route selected for improved bicycling conditions.*** We invite you to bike the Capital City State Trail and the eastern part of the Military Ridge State Trail from Lake Farm State Park on Madison’s south side to Mount Horeb, where we will stop for lunch at the Grumpy Troll before returning. We are also planning starting/ending locations mid-route for those who are not interested in riding the full distance.

The full ride – round-trip from Madison to Mount Horeb and back – will be approximately 50 miles. Departure time from Lake Farm Park is at 9:30 am sharp, so plan to arrive by 9:15 am. For a shorter ride, you can join the ride in either Riley at 11:15 am (estimated 12 mi RT), Verona at 10:45 am (estimated 24 mi RT), or at the DNR offices on Fish Hatchery Rd in Fitchburg at 10 am (estimated 40 mi RT). Please be there at least 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time.

You will need to bring your own bike and helmet. In Madison, bicycles are available for rent ($20/day for a hybrid) from Budget Bicycles, 1230 Regent St (near Camp Randall). Call 608-251-8413 for more information. Rental includes a helmet and lock.

The Capital City Trail is an asphalt paved surface ideal for biking. Our ride on the trail will got through the Capital Springs E-way south of the City. We will travel southwest along a connector route to Verona, where we will get on the Military Ridge State Trail. This trail offers beautiful scenery, running between the Wisconsin River watershed to the north and the Pecatonica and Rock River watershed to the south. The ride into Mt Horeb is uphill, but the grade is gentle. Experienced riders will be along for the ride to assist with mechanical issues and we have a support vehicle if you are unable to complete the ride.

The Spring Bicycle Tour is a fundraising event supporting WASBO student scholarships. The tour is $40 and includes the daily trail pass, lunch, water and snacks for the ride, a support vehicle, a commemorative t-shirt, and a late afternoon reception (4:30-6:30 pm) at the Madison Marriott West with beverages and hot hors d'oeuvres. A waiver of liability form will be provided on site for your signature. Participants must wear bike helmets.
